MISFITS

As the name suggests, these paintings don’t quite fit into other categories.  For example, the painting “Escondido” relies on a similar visual approach as my COVID series but doesn’t include people, so feels quite different from the rest. “COVID winter” is another that can’t be part of that series because it portrays isolation, rather than longing.  “Both Sides” is also a clear misfit. Held one way, it’s a painting of a young dancer, her mother, and the ghost of an ancestor. Upside down, it’s a fairytale figure.  As I continue to paint, I expect I will create many more of these misfits – paintings that refuse to do what they’re told.
